there's envy on the tip of my tongue, waiting to explode

oh that is another one.

There is so much good stuff in this notebook. I must share it all immediately. (no order, I will just put what class they are from at the end.)

When was the last time you did something because you wanted to? Why is your life worth living? What makes you happy? (Area II, student produced questions, first day of classes)

People made fun of me. I couldn't find my food. I almost knocked over my drink. I didn't know who I was talking to. (Area I, terrible first day? not really, it's actually my reflection on what it was like to eat dinner in the refectory blindfolded.)

What is intelligence? It emerges only when a person is being compared to others. (Area II)

Is stillness truly stillness? What is stillness? (Area I)

Find an interesting inanimate object. Dance with it. Find a site on campus. Sit. Observe. Write impressions. (Our Area I homework for one night.)

Can you have an opinion of a fact? (Area II)

Science doesn't really make sense because sense is based on our own life experiences. When is the last time you saw light go from one place to another? When's the last time you saw an electron? Science doesn't make sense. (Special Relativity lecture.)

Forget "supposed!" (Area II)

Greed is in my fingers that reach out for things I don't need. Jealousy is in my gut, burning me from the inside-out. Harmony is in my belly button, where everything comes together. My neck's wisdom counterbalances my head's intelligence. There's envy on the tip of my tongue, waiting to explode. Malice is in the flair of my nostrils as I try to hold it back. Stupidity is in my eyelid when it closes at inappropriate times. (hahaha Area I. so much love.)

What do credentials really mean? Is there more than reputations? (Area II)

What does women's efforts to be "beautiful" say about the relationship between men and women in society? (Area II)

A and B are not important. What's important is how you get from A to be. -Sandy(Area I)

We don't know that much. Nothing we've learned in school is true. Everything that's ever been written has been wrong. It's all wrong. It's just the best thing we have. Reality is infinitely complex. The illusion we've been given that we can get to an endpoint and be done is nonsense. Everything we know was discovered by people like us 10 years in the future. (DAVE BRUZINA IS MY HERO. Area II)

Are we doing it for ourselves or for other people? (Area II)

Art constitutes community. (Area II)

What's so good about being taken out of our comfort zone? (Area II, again.)

Everything is valuable information. You can't rely on someone else; you must actively seek it out yourself. Study economics. It is boring but valuable. Look for the subtext. Listen to what people aren't telling you. (AREA II = LOVE.)

Why don't we reject the curriculum? Make an alternative. ANALYZE RHETORIC. (Area II. It is funny because I hated Area II while I was there.)

The average male in the US committs 7 felonies before the age of 50. (Area II)

How do you know? (Area II, surprise!)

Make the familiar strange and the strange familiar. Be skeptical. (Area II)

You need to stop worrying about rules and start worrying about what's right and wrong. (Area II. Our last day of classes.)

We had separate Area III journals. I don't know where mine is.

But there it is, folks. Think about it.

GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL WEST 2005. ACCEPT NOTHING. CHALLENGE EVERYTHING. (I love you.)
